Target of PM Surya Ghar free electricity scheme:- 

Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme aims to provide free electricity to households in India, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024. Under this scheme, up to 40% of the cost of solar panels will be subsidized. Through Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, 300 units of electricity will be provided free of cost every month, benefiting 1 crore households. Under this scheme, these households will save Rs 15,000 crore annually, and they will be able to earn good income by selling their excess power. The scheme will improve charging facilities for electric vehicles, ease agricultural operations through supply and installation of solar panels, and provide opportunities for more vendors to become entrepreneurs. Also, there will be more employment opportunities for all youth with technical skills in manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of solar panels.

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Eligibility :-

  • Indian citizenship is necessary to avail the benefits of this scheme.
  • In this scheme, priority will be given to the youth of middle class and poor class.
  • The minimum age of the beneficiaries of this scheme should be more than 18 years.
  • To avail the benefits of the scheme, the candidate must have a bank account and Aadhar card.
  • Candidates from all categories are likely to benefit from this scheme.
  • The candidate must have a house that has a suitable roof to install solar panels.
  • The candidate must have valid electricity connection at home.
  • The candidate should not be availing the benefit of any other subsidy.

How to apply

  1. Visit the

      official website

  2. Provide the following details for registration.

    - Select your State
    - Select your Electricity Distribution Company
    - Enter your Electricity Consumer Number
    - Enter Mobile Number
    - Enter Email
    - Please follow as per the direction from the portal.

  3. Login with Consumer Number & Mobile Number.


  4. Apply for the Rooftop Solar as per the form.


  5. Fill out the online application form.


  6. Wait for the feasibility approval from DISCOM. Once you get the feasibility approval install the plant by any of the registered vendors in your DISCOM.


  7. Once installation is over, submit the plant details and apply for net meter.


  8. After installation of net meter and inspection by DISCOM, they will generate commissioning certificate from portal.


  9. Once you get the commissioning report. Submit the bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. You will receive your subsidy in your bank account within 30 days.

  10. Can applicant install Rooftop Solar system if applicant live in a rented house?

    The RTS under any framework like net or gross metering can be installed by the electricity consumer. So, if applicant have electricity connection in his/her name and he/she pay regularly the electricity bill in his/her own name and also have the permission of use the roof for solar rooftop installation from the owner, he/she can install the RTS.

  11. If applicant shift his/her residence or office where RTS is installed, what will happen to the RTS?

    The system is easy to be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere. So, it can be shifted to new residence.
